Adithya Bindhu Sreekumar is a Research Associate II with the Gulf Coast Aquatic Health Lab under the Global Center for Aquatic Health and Food Security (GCAHFS). A postgraduate specializing in fish genetics and biotechnology, she conducts research focused on investigating the interrelationships among viruses, microorganisms, and aquatic animals.

Bindhu Sreekumar holds a Master of Fisheries Science from the Central Institute of Fisheries Education in Mumbai, India, and a Bachelor of Fisheries Science, specializing in fisheries and aquaculture, from Andhra Pradesh Fisheries University. Her research expertise lies in selective breeding, bioinformatics, and microbial genomics with a strong foundation in statistical modelling and data analysis. Her master’s thesis focused on developing predictive models for the genetic selection of growth in catfish (Clarius magur), estimation of genetic parameters of the growth traits, and managing large genetic datasets with advanced statistical tools and software.

Driven by a deep commitment to aquatic animal health and a strong foundation in fish genetics and genomics, Bindhu Sreekumar looks forward to supporting the commitment of GCAHFS to advancing One Health solutions as a cornerstone for achieving a sustainable blue economy along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Gulf Coast Aquatic Health Lab’s emphasis on promoting ecological well-being through sustainability, interdisciplinary research, and active collaboration with key stakeholders strongly resonates with her aspirations. Her background, shaped by extensive fieldwork, scientific writing, and interdisciplinary collaboration, fuels her enthusiasm to contribute to cutting-edge research and innovative solutions in marine animal health and sustainable aquaculture.
