Beth Peterman serves as the project manager for the Gulf Coast Aquatic Health Program. She provides leadership and direction, coordination of activities, and support for the Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Conservation, Recovery, and Monitoring Program. She also is working in this capacity to help establish the MSU Gulf Coast Aquatic Health Laboratory, which aims to conduct research and diagnostic activities focused on improving the health of aquatic animals, and the aquatic environment, in the Gulf of Mexico, particularly the Mississippi Sound.

Peterman serves as an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine. She is one of the aquatic animal diagnosticians in the MSU CVM Aquatic Diagnostic Lab. She is certified by the American Fisheries Society, Fish Health Section, as a fish pathologist and as an aquatic animal health inspector. 

Peterman additionally leads the monthly seminar series, Marine Monday!, which is part of the Marine Animal Health online Canvas course, and she is the point of contact and coordinator for the Marine Animal Veterinary Externship program for MSU and non-MSU DVM and VMT students and is on the Sea Turtle Health and Steering Committee that oversees the care of the sea turtles being rehabilitated.  

Peterman received three degrees from MSU, a B.S. in aquaculture, an M.S. in veterinary medical science with an emphasis on fish immunology and pathology, and a PhD in veterinary medical science with an emphasis on fish immunology. She has served in a variety of roles at MSU CVM, USM, and USDA ARS, focusing on aquatic animal health in service, teaching, and research.
