Matt Griffin is a Research Professor in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine at Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where he also serves with the Aquaculture Research and Diagnostic Laboratory. Dr. Griffin’s research centers on aquatic animal health, with emphases in microbiology, parasitology, molecular diagnostics, environmental pathogen detection, and risk assessment relevant to fish and aquaculture systems.
Griffin earned his Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicine and Science from Mississippi State University, where he developed expertise in aquatic animal diseases and diagnostic methodologies. His work has been recognized with multiple professional awards, including honors from the American Fisheries Society and Mississippi State University for research achievement and service.
At MSU, Dr. Griffin contributes to graduate education and mentors students in research, integrating contemporary aquatic health challenges with solutions that support animal health, aquatic industry sustainability, and veterinary diagnostics. He also serves on the Technical Working Group for the FAO Reference Center on Antimicrobial Resistance and Aquaculture Biosecurity at Mississippi State University.
