What is your role at Mississippi State University and how are you affiliated with GCAHFS?
I’m a professor at Mississippi State University. I get the privilege of working with the Fish Innovation Lab, where I've served as one of the aquaculture technical advisors in the past and get a chance to rub elbows with the amazing team of folks that they have. It’s been a privilege to work there for a number of years.
What is the most rewarding part of being affiliated with GCAHFS?
The most rewarding part of being affiliated with [GCAHFS] has been working with talented people around the world, helping to partner and address research needs that both benefit us here in the U.S. and people globally as well, and just seeing all of the talented researchers and students and engaging with stakeholders wherever they're facing challenges that we can collectively address.
How has GCAHFS advanced your career or schooling?
A lot of that has just come from the various perspectives of folks around the globe, both working in the management team at the Fish Innovation Lab and working with folks in all kinds of different areas and them bringing in their expertise and experiences. We're able to salt each other in terms of ideas and collaboration and helping students to be successful and address challenges that are pertinent to all of us.
What are some fun facts about you?
- People always ask me, “Hey, you work with fish. Do you like to eat fish?” And the answer to the question is yes, I love to eat fish!
- I like to go fishing and I love being out in natural areas—lakes, rivers, streams, hiking and just enjoying that interface with water that you see in natural areas.
