The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has renewed Mississippi State University’s designation as an FAO Reference Centre on Antimicrobial Resistance and Aquaculture Biosecurity for an additional five years, extending the partnership through October 2031. The Reference Centre is housed within the Global Center for Aquatic Health and Food Security (GCAHFS) and supports FAO efforts related to antimicrobial stewardship, aquatic animal health, responsible aquaculture and biosecurity.
The renewal follows a positive FAO review of MSU’s contributions since its initial designation in 2022. During the first designation period, MSU reported 47 scientific publications, 139 presentations and more than 30 research projects related to antimicrobial resistance and aquatic biosecurity.
“This five-year redesignation reflects FAO’s continued confidence in Mississippi State and, more importantly, gives us another opportunity to put our university’s expertise to work addressing challenges that affect producers and food systems around the world,” said Dr. Stephen Reichley, Head of the FAO Reference Centre and GCAHFS Associate Director.
